Anti-monarchy protest planned in Cardiff

After the death of Queen Elizabeth II, there was some criticism of the monarchy. This is also the case in the Welsh capital Cardiff. Protests were announced ahead of the royal couple’s visit on Friday.
While protests against the monarchy in Great Britain were only isolated in the days after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the new King Charles III. prepare for a larger demonstration for the first time on Friday.
Anti-monarchy opponents are planning a silent protest against the country’s form of government in the Welsh capital Cardiff this afternoon, the PA news agency reported. Among other things, 73-year-old Charles and King’s wife Camilla (75) want to visit Cardiff Castle, where the demo is to take place.
Unions, pro-independence supporters of the part of the country and supporters of a republic, among others, called for the protest under the motto “Real Democracy Now”. They demanded that the police respect their freedom to demonstrate. There have been arrests in Britain in recent days as people expressed their opposition to the monarchy.
“We need to talk about the future of Wales and what we want our country to look like,” said activist Bethan Sayed, a former Welsh regional parliamentarian for Plaid Cymru. Although it is often objected that now is not the time for such a debate, he thinks that the moment of succession to the throne is exactly the right time for it. “We don’t want to cause any problems, but we demand that our rights to dissent and to express them be respected,” Sayed said.
