Roskilde 2022: All the highlights from the 50th anniversary of the festival classic

In 1971, the Roskilde Festival opened its doors for the first time. Again this year over 130,000 people traveled to the multi-day party on the Danish island of Zealand.

This time, Jimmy Eat World, Modest Mouse and Haim, among others, performed alongside headliners Robert Plant, The Strokes and TLC. Despite some heavy showers, the festival visitors celebrated exuberantly.

Roskilde is legendary. First organized by a few high school students in 1970, it grew into the largest non-profit festival in the world. There are only a few dozen paid employees – the rest is supported by up to 40,000 volunteers. All profits are donated to charitable causes, the sums are usually in the tens of millions. In addition to some top-class headliners, many unknown artists are also invited. The supporting program includes a four-day warm-up, the legendary naked race, skate park, cinema, bathing and fishing lake and art exhibitions.
