Former ski racer Rosi Mittermaier is dead. According to her family, she died after a serious illness. The former world-class athlete “fell asleep peacefully surrounded by the family”. Mittermaier became a German sports icon after winning gold medals in downhill and slalom and silver in giant slalom at the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck. It was her big year.
