Rosi Mittermaier: When “Gold-Rosi” brought unforgettable moments to all of Germany

Former ski racer Rosi Mittermaier is dead. According to her family, she died after a serious illness. The former world-class athlete “fell asleep peacefully surrounded by the family”. Mittermaier became a German sports icon after winning gold medals in downhill and slalom and silver in giant slalom at the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck. It was her big year. In addition to the Olympic medals, she became world champion in the combination and in the slalom. Rosa Katharina Mittermaier-Neureuther, as her full name was, was 72 years old.
