Romania: Tate brothers released from house arrest – travel ban remains – Panorama

Although the two have been released from house arrest, they are not allowed to leave the country. They have to await their trial there. They are accused of forcing young women to make sex videos.

British-American influencer Andrew Tate, his brother Tristan and their two suspected Romanian accomplices have been released from house arrest pending their trial. However, they are not allowed to leave Romania. The measure by the Court of Appeal in Bucharest is valid until October 2, the Romanian news agency Mediafax reported.

A first court date has not yet been announced, but it is not expected until September at the earliest after the end of the judicial vacation. The four are accused of forcing young women to take part in commercially distributed sex videos in Romania. They are said to have used the so-called loverboy method: they used manipulation techniques to make the girls dependent on themselves. The four were arrested on December 30 in Voluntari near Bucharest. They were released three months later and placed under house arrest.

Andrew Tate rose to fame in 2016 when he was kicked out of Britain’s Big Brother show after a video of him hitting a woman with a belt broke. As an influencer, he had always staged himself with misogynistic statements. In the UK and beyond, he is considered the epitome of toxic masculinity.
