The long-time goalkeeper Roman Bürki has been demoted to number three at BVB. In the interview he talks about a difficult situation.

In an interview with the Ruhr news spoke about his situation at BVB in the past few months and described it as “difficult”. “You should just see the people behind it,” said the 31-year-old: “It definitely wasn’t easy for me.”

The goalkeeper has recently learned a lot about football and the business behind it. “It can be tough and cause a roller coaster ride of emotions from one day to the next,” said the Swiss: “If you extend a contract in football, you will of course be told that you are counted on. And yet it can be a year later look very different.”

BVB keeper Roman Bürki: “No real chance”

He came back from vacation “and was no longer number 1, but number 38”. His assumption is that there should be changes in the squad that “take a different direction” that “you will probably see in other positions in the next few years”.

Bürki sobered: “I gave everything, but that didn’t lead to a real chance. I had to learn to free myself from this constant pressure.” Nevertheless, he was not angry with BVB: “On the whole, I would give this time a very positive note.”

Bürki will be playing from next summer in the USA with the new MLS club St. Louis City SC. In Dortmund, the goalkeeper can look back on two cup victories and one Supercup success.
