The watch expert Gisbert L. Brunner was not comfortable with the matter from the start. Pre-owned luxury watch prices had risen and risen during the pandemic, and demand seemed never-ending. Brunner, who has been collecting wristwatches since the mid-1960s, has written several books on the watch industry and is considered one of its best experts, took a critical view of the development. Instead of real watch lovers, almost only speculators and investors got a chance. “It hurts my soul,” said Brunner.
