Rohrwerk Maxhütte GmbH is once again on the brink of extinction – Bavaria

The history of the traditional Maxhütte in Sulzbach-Rosenberg is supplemented by another negative chapter: Rohrwerk Maxhütte GmbH with its around 320 employees is insolvent again. An application to open insolvency proceedings has been submitted to the responsible district court in Amberg. This emerges from a communication from the SRI legal community. Its managing director, Jochen Zaremba, has been appointed as provisional insolvency administrator.

Maxhütte cited unsatisfactory capacity utilization and the impending loss of a key customer as the reason for filing for insolvency. After the successful restructuring that was transferred to the Mertex Group two years ago, the traditional company initially had to struggle with start-up losses, according to SRI. However, the management managed to win a major customer and thus stabilize the company.

“The fact that the step into insolvency was now unavoidable is very bitter for both the region and the workforce,” said Jochen Zaremba. According to their own statements, the renovation experts are faced with a mammoth task. “The conditions for transferring restructuring are significantly worse this time,” said Zaremba. “After the last insolvency the property and production facilities were transferred to other companies that were not formally affected by the insolvency, the attractiveness of Rohrwerk Maxhütte GmbH for potential investors is shrinking.” Nevertheless, even under these difficult conditions, he will strive for a transferable restructuring in order to be able to maintain a traditional company and, above all, jobs for the region.

At the Sulzbach-Rosenberg location, Rohrwerk Maxhütte GmbH produces hot and cold-finished, seamless, high-quality pipes for various areas. In particular, the company specializes in the automotive and energy sectors. It is one of the largest employers in Sulzbach-Rosenberg.
