Will Bong Joon-ho deliver a new masterpiece? This is what sci-fi fans will find out in 2025: “Mickey 17” with Robert Pattinson has a new date.

The movie “Mickey 17” directed by Bong Joon-ho (54) has been given a new release date. The film was actually supposed to hit theaters in March 2024. However, due to the Hollywood strikes last year, Warner Bros. postponed the release of the film. January 31, 2025 is now the deadline in the USA, as “The Hollywood Reporter” reports.

Robert Pattinson as “Expendable”

Hollywood star Robert Pattinson (37) plays the main role in “Mickey 17”. The film is based on Edward Ashton’s science fiction novel “Mickey 7”. The story revolves around Mickey, an “Expendable” or expendable clone who must help colonize the ice planet Niflheim.

Mickey is used on dangerous missions because his clone body can be reprinted again and again using a bioprinter. If he dies, his memories will be preserved in the new clone version. During a mission, Mickey falls into a crevasse and is pronounced dead. When he returns unnoticed, he meets another version of himself…

Award-winning director directs the film project

Filming for “Mickey 17” began in August 2022. In addition to “Twilight” star Pattinson, Steven Yeun (40), Naomi Ackie (31), Toni Collette (51) and Mark Ruffalo (56) will also be seen in it. Director Bong Joon-ho is known for his successful film “Parasite” (2019). The film won Best Film, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay at the 2020 Academy Awards. Fans and critics are eagerly awaiting whether Bong Joon-ho will build on this success with his new work.
