Robert Habeck in the stern: “We have to defend our republic”

Hardly anyone polarizes as much as Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck. A conversation about government mistakes and the dangers from the right.

Mr. Habeck, when you were on the ferry recently, just before Schlüttsiel, what was the first thing you saw on board?
The lights of the tractors. The second was a sign that said, “Get out!” But I went there consciously.

Did you know what to expect from the investor?
I knew there would be protests. Information arrived at me around midday. A CDU colleague from local politics had tipped off Green MPs that something was brewing at the investor. That was very thoughtful of her – and a sign of how fair politics can be.

I did not want. I wanted to talk to the people at the ferry dock.
