RKI numbers: Twelfth incidence peak in a row

The fourth wave is getting higher and higher: With 340.7 the RKI has reported another record value for the incidence value. In addition, there were almost 53,000 new infections and 201 fatalities. The hospitalization incidence is 5.7.

The nationwide seven-day incidence of new corona infections has increased further. As the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) announced, citing data from the health authorities, the value increased to 340.7 and thus reached a new high for the twelfth day in a row. The incidence was 336.9 on Thursday and 263.7 a week ago.

The seven-day incidence indicates the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days. On Monday of last week, the value had exceeded the threshold of 200 for the first time, which had been the highest level since the beginning of the pandemic. Since then, new highs have been recorded every day.

Almost 53,000 new cases

Nationwide, 52,970 new infections were also registered within 24 hours. Exactly one week ago there were 48,640 infections. According to the new information, 201 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours. A week ago there were 191 deaths.

As a new important benchmark for the corona measures, the federal and state governments also set the hospitalization incidence on Thursday. This value indicates how many people per 100,000 inhabitants are in hospital within seven days because of a corona infection. According to the RKI, the nationwide hospitalization incidence on Thursday was 5.3. With the indicator it must be taken into account that hospital admissions are sometimes reported with delay.

According to the latest information from the RKI, 201 further deaths related to Covid-19 were recorded within 24 hours. The total number of registered cases of infection in Germany since the beginning of the pandemic rose to 5,248,291, the total number of recorded deaths in connection with a corona infection to 98,739. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not recognized.
