With the spread of the delta variant, the incidence value of new infections rose slightly by 0.1 for the first time in weeks. According to the RKI, it is now 5.0. 559 people were newly infected within one day.
For the first time in weeks, the seven-day incidence of new corona infections has increased compared to the previous day. It was 5.0 infections within seven days per 100,000 inhabitants and thus 0.1 higher than the day before (4.9; previous week: 5.7), according to figures from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI).
Accordingly, the health authorities in Germany reported 559 new corona infections to the institute within one day. A week ago the value was 538 infections.
The highest seven-day incidence during the third corona wave was on April 26 with a value of 169.3. After that, apart from a few outliers, it had fallen fairly steadily.
Most recently, the incidence rose temporarily on June 1 and 2. Due to the spread of the particularly contagious Delta variant in Germany, it was already expected that the decline in new infections in this form would not continue.
Seven deaths in one day
According to the new RKI information, seven corona deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours. A week ago there were eight dead. The RKI has counted 3,730,912 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not detected.
The RKI stated the number of those who had recovered at 3,628,400. The number of people who died with or with a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 91,030.
As a rule, the number of new infections on the weekend and on Monday is lower than the weekly average, because fewer tests are carried out on the weekends and fewer test results are transmitted.
