RKI counts 217,815 new cases
Seven-day incidence climbs to 1388.0

The omicron wave seems to continue unabated. The nationwide incidence jumps to 1388.0. In addition, the Robert Koch Institute registered almost 220,000 new infections. There are also 172 deaths.
The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) has reported a further increase in the nationwide seven-day incidence and thus a new high. The RKI gave the value of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week in the morning at 1388.0. For comparison: the day before the value was 1349.5. A week ago, the nationwide incidence was 1127.7 (previous month: 258.6). The health authorities in Germany reported 217,815 new corona infections to the RKI within one day. A week ago there were 189,166 infections.
Experts assume a high and increasing number of cases that are not recorded in the RKI data, partly because testing capacities and health authorities are at their limits in many places. In addition, some cities and districts have been reporting problems with the transmission of the number of corona cases for days.
According to the new information, 172 deaths were recorded in Germany within 24 hours. A week ago there were 182 deaths. The RKI has counted 10,889,417 infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections go undetected.
The RKI gave the number of corona-infected patients who came to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days as 5.45 on Friday (Thursday: 5.00). These may also include people with a positive corona test who have another main illness. The RKI gave the number of recovered people in the morning as 8,016,000. The number of people who died from or involved a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 118,676.
Note: The figures from the RKI usually deviate slightly from the case data that ntv.de reported daily in the evening. The ntv.de data team directly accesses the registration numbers from the federal states as published by the local ministries and authorities. The RKI, on the other hand, is bound to the legally prescribed reporting channels, which can lead to a delay.
In addition, the respective daily values reflect different recording periods: The ntv evaluation collects the country data published up to the evening and uses this to calculate a daily status of the reported case numbers, which is usually published from 8 p.m. The RKI’s recording system, on the other hand, takes into account incoming reports up to midnight, with the current data status then being announced the following morning.
