3G regulation – Denmark reintroduces corona restrictions
On September 10, Denmark celebrated its “Freedom Day” and lifted the last corona restrictions. Recently the numbers rose again. The Danish government therefore wants to use the 3G rule again.
Ztwo months after the abolition of all corona restrictions in Denmark, the country wants to reintroduce measures to contain the pandemic. A panel of epidemiologists have proposed the reintroduction of the 3G regulation, and the government is following this advice, said Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in Copenhagen on Monday evening. The reason is the sharp increase in the number of infections.
On the recommendation of the panel, Covid-19 will be re-classified as a “threat to society”, said Frederiksen.
The Danish government wants to reintroduce the so-called corona passport. According to this, the ID that certifies a vaccination, recovery or a negative test should be valid especially when visiting cafes, restaurants and nightclubs as well as indoor events with more than 200 participants. A limit of 2000 participants should apply to events in the outdoor area. The government also wants visitors to hospitals and care centers to show a corona passport.
Denmark only lifted the last corona restrictions on September 10th. The government in Copenhagen had justified this with the high Danish vaccination rates and also with the fact that the pandemic was under control. The mask requirement on public transport had already been abolished in mid-August.
Head of government: “Small group” is responsible for the increase in infections
After the end of the corona measures, however, the number of new infections rose sharply again. At the end of last week, the National Health Authority warned of overburdening hospitals. On Monday, the authorities reported more than 2,000 new infections in the country with around 5.8 million inhabitants for the fifth day in a row.
In Denmark, 85.9 percent of the population over the age of twelve is fully vaccinated. The reintroduction of the 3G rule means restrictions “for those who are not vaccinated. I think it should be like that, ”said Frederiksen.
“The health authorities assume that the infections will continue to increase,” said Frederiksen. “This increases the burden on the hospitals”. The increase in infections was due to a “small group” that did not follow the rules, according to Frederiksen.
