Marcillac-Vallon on the sign at the entrance to his Aveyron village of 1,700 inhabitants, located twenty kilometers north of Rodez.
Quite annoyed to see bags of garbage ripped open, bottles, tires, and even a gas stove, abandoned near the places of household garbage collection or the village hall, the town councilor decided to draw the greatest means: three cameras will be installed on the outskirts of these sectors, which are also the favorite places of a wild tagger. And two other cameras are also planned to spy around the nursery school.

“The idea comes from the chief warrant officer of the gendarmerie. And then stop talking about video surveillance, it’s video security, says the mayor. The cameras will not be connected to a PC, they will record what is happening and we will keep the images for thirty days. In the event of a problem, we can consult them ”. Presented to the municipal council on November 19, 2020, this decision voted by majority (thirteen votes in favor, four against and two abstentions) did not only make people happy.

Residents immediately launched a petition which has collected 2,578 signatures to date. In addition to the investment of 18,000 euros (including 9,000 euros at the charge of the municipality) which remains through their throats, they propose “that a lorry from the waste reception center makes rounds twice a month to recover these bulky items” rather. than “filming garbage cans”.
As for the surveillance of the school, there again, they denounce “breakage of glass and deterioration of the notice board or the letterbox located in the entrance which are used here as a pretext”. The mayor who does not let himself be intimidated by “these 2,500 signatures, of which only 25 from the village”, swears that a consultation is underway with the parents of the pupils “and if a majority is against, well we will see, we will discuss it. “.
