Rhön: Waste oil and paint residues disposed of in the landscape protection area – Bavaria

In the middle of a landscape conservation area in the Lower Franconian Rhön region, hunters found six barrels with used oil and paint residue. The investigators assume that a man from the Kassel area offered a local car repair shop to dispose of its toxic liquids, as the Schweinfurt water protection police announced on Tuesday. The man’s van was identified as the crime vehicle, it said. In a forest near Sandberg (Rhön-Grabfeld district), the suspect and his accomplices apparently let three full 200 and 60 liter metal barrels roll down a steep slope, it said. Since the barrels were only closed with a simple lid, no toxins escaped through sheer luck. With a lot of effort and heavy equipment, the building yard employees salvaged the barrels from the dangerous hillside.
