A storm causes severe damage in a Mainz district. A garden shed is thrown through the air, damaging a house.

Collapsed roof structures, covered roofs and fallen trees: A storm on Friday evening caused massive damage in Mainz-Ebersheim. This was announced by the Mainz fire brigade early on Saturday morning. Dozens of buildings were said to have been damaged by wind, rain and hail. But there were no injuries.

According to the fire brigade, a garden shed was blown through the air in a street. The hut then crashed into the attic of another house. In one yard, several roofs were torn off by the strong wind. Part of the roof structure of a barn also collapsed. Flying roof tiles got stuck in walls and front doors.

In total, the fire brigade counted 25 damaged buildings and five heavily damaged vehicles by early Saturday morning. Rescuers felled trees damaged by the storm that threatened to fall onto public areas.

Around 4 a.m., the fire brigade was still working to secure the buildings most severely damaged by the storm, the statement said. The operations around the local district should last until the late hours of the morning.
