Rhineland-Palatinate relaxes mask requirement from Friday – SWR Aktuell

The mask requirement in Rhineland-Palatinate will be lifted for many areas from today. As State Minister of Health Clemens Hoch (SPD) announced, the new Corona regulation provides for this.

Wherever it is checked whether guests or visitors have been vaccinated, recovered or tested, masks will no longer have to be worn from Friday. According to Minister Hoch, this applies to restaurants, hotels, amusement parks and zoos. “We are taking a big step towards normality,” said Hoch.

There are exceptions, for example, for retirement homes, hospitals and body-related services. Masks must continue to be worn here, as well as at indoor events with more than 250 people. The obligation to wear a mask also remains in retail because there are no controls there. However, Hoch recommends wearing a mask as often and as consistently as possible.

Mask requirements in schools in RLP are gradually being phased out

In the Rhineland-Palatinate schools, the mask requirement is to be gradually lifted. From March 14th, schoolchildren will no longer have to wear a mask during physical education and music lessons. At the elementary and special schools, the mask requirement in the entire lesson will then no longer apply. “From March 21st, the mask requirement will then no longer apply in all schools in the square,” said Minister of Health Hoch.

There are also plans to make the corona tests easier for schoolchildren. From March 14, schools will only test twice instead of three times as before. For children and young people, the obligation to test for leisure activities will then no longer apply. According to the new Corona Control Ordinance, it is only intended for non-immunized children and young people at major events with more than 2,000 participants.

In the future, minors will no longer have to be in quarantine as contact persons for infected people. The so-called separation obligation only applies to children and young people if they themselves are infected with the corona virus.

Clubs and discos are allowed to open again

From next Friday (March 4th), clubs and discotheques in Rhineland-Palatinate will also be allowed to reopen for the first time since December last year – albeit under 2G Plus conditions. This means that only those who have recovered and those who have been vaccinated with an additional negative corona test are allowed in.

Those who have not been vaccinated can be tested again in hotels and restaurants

The new Corona regulation, which comes into force on Friday, also provides for further easing for gastronomy and hotels as well as major events. In hotels and restaurants, 3G will apply from Friday, which means that in addition to those who have recovered and those who have been vaccinated, those who have not been vaccinated and who have tested negative will have access again. “In most areas of social life, the 3G rule applies from Friday,” said Hoch. The 2G rule only applies to events with more than 2,000 participants.

More spectators at major events

More spectators and participants are allowed to attend Bundesliga games or other major national events. Up to 75 percent of the seats can then be used outdoors, with the upper limit being 25,000 people. Inside, a maximum utilization of 60 percent of the maximum capacity applies. No more than 6,000 spectators are allowed here.

Gastronomy calls for the end of all corona restrictions

The Rhineland-Palatinate hospitality industry criticizes the gradual easing as insufficient. “We demand an end to all existing corona restrictions and the opening of all businesses,” said Gereon Haumann, state chairman of the German Hotel and Restaurant Association (Dehoga). The association bothers the control obligation. “We have to continue to control the access of the guests. That is a considerable effort and it does not decrease for the companies that they now have to control 3G instead of 2G-Plus,” said Haumann. The control obligation of the hosts must go.

Third opening step on March 20th

After the federal and state consultations in mid-February, Prime Minister Malu Dreyer (SPD) announced that the corona rule would be relaxed in three steps. According to this, most of the remaining anti-corona measures should expire in the third step on March 20th, if the situation in the hospitals allows it. These included the obligation to test at the workplace and the obligation to work from home. In some areas, such as local public transport (ÖPNV), the obligation to wear masks and distance should be retained as basic protective measures.
