Review Uwe Timm: “All my spirits” – culture

The fact that the great German author Uwe Timm is a trained furrier can not only be read on Wikipedia, but can also be checked. Facsimiles of Timm’s certificates are stored there, the “journeyman’s examination board of the furrier, glove and cap maker guild Hamburg” certifies that Timm has mastered his craft inside out, if not summa cum laude. Practical performance: very good. Theoretical performance: very good. And so Timm tells in his new book “Alle meine Geister” about the post-war period, about Hamburg in the 1950s and the furrier’s apprenticeship he completed there at the Levermann fur and fashion house. His father got him the job, he was also a furrier, founder and owner of the specialist shop Pelze Timm.
