The performance of the first two movements of Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 1 with Emanuel Ax and the Munich Philharmonic conducted by Krzysztof Urbański in the Isarphilharmonie is wonderful. This piano concerto is great in its chronological extension, in its gentleness, in its power. Even the orchestral introduction is powerful, and Urbański has the orchestra well under control with imposing general gestures.
