Review: Countertenor Philippe Jaroussky in the Isarphilharmonie – Munich

When Philippe Jaroussky appears at the end of the Sinfonia with which Johann Adolph Hasse’s “Demofoonte” begins, you are briefly shocked: you don’t know that many gray hairs from him. But as soon as the French countertenor started singing, all concerns were dispelled, even if the 45-year-old’s precious, distinctively timbred and still captivatingly youthful voice initially did not sound as beautiful and supple as it did during the course of the concert in the Isarphilharmonie “Forgotten Arias” more and more.
