Reunion with the Master of the Mists – Munich

Fujiko Nakaya is one of Japan’s most important artists. In Germany, she became known to a wide audience through the exhibition “Fujiko Nakaya. Nebel Leben” (2023) at Haus der Kunst. This was her first comprehensive retrospective outside of Japan. On May 15 she will be celebrating her 90th birthday and the Einstein will be honoring her with a film concert.

With her artworks of air and water, Fujiko Nakaya defies previous sculptural conventions by creating temporary, limitless transformations. From an early age she was concerned with ecological issues.

At her Munich show she also met the pianist Masako Ohta personally. Now she is dedicating an unusual concert evening to her: she is playing in a trio for “Film als Score”, which Ullrich Läntzsch from Munich created as a hymn to nature. The focus of the meditative film, which is actually called “yìshù xiǎoxī” in Chinese, is the Arzbach in Tölzerland, its streams, the light and the original sculptures that Läntzsch formed from the garbage he found in the creek. Masako Ohta is accompanied by percussionist Naoto Yamagishi – he is currently a scholarship holder at Villa Waldberta.

Happy 90th Fujiko Nakaya! – Concert with film, Mon., 15. May, 8 p.m., Einstein Kultur, Hall 01, Einsteinstr. 42, maps [email protected]
