The A7 in the Heidekreis was clogged for hours on Monday: there was a traffic jam of twelve kilometers towards the south at times, and ten kilometers of vehicles in the opposite direction. According to the ADAC, there was also a ten-kilometer-long traffic jam between Peine and Lehrte on the A2 in the direction of Hanover in the afternoon. In the late afternoon, traffic was also stopped further north in the Garlstorf area in the Harburg district. The return journey continues after Pentecost

There are likely to be more travelers on the return journey in the coming days. The ADAC had already warned in advance of massive traffic jams on Tuesday afternoon. The A7 and A1 around Hamburg are the most traffic jam-prone motorways

According to ADAC, the A7 north and south of the Elbe Tunnel in Hamburg is particularly prone to traffic jams. A noise protection tunnel around two kilometers long is being built in the Altona area. Drivers often only make slow progress on the A1 (Bremen-Lübeck): After Hamburg’s overloaded eastern bypass, there is a construction site towards the Baltic Sea near Bargteheide (Stormarn district). Due to bridge construction work, the motorway towards Lübeck is narrowing from three to two lanes, as Autobahn GmbH announced.

Between Bramsche and Holdorf, a truck had previously driven into the central barrier for an unknown reason. According to the police, the diesel tank tore open and the fuel spread across the road. The truck driver was able to steer the vehicle off the highway himself and was uninjured. There were also accidents on the A7 on Whitsunday.

Slow traffic on Saturday

In Hamburg, progress on the A7 was slow on Saturday. According to the ADAC, there was heavy traffic between the Hamburg-Südwest triangle and Othmarschen at midday with at least 45 minutes of time lost. Traffic at the Elbe Tunnel towards Flensburg was at a standstill until the afternoon. In Schleswig-Holstein, drivers had to be patient on the A1 towards the Baltic Sea on Saturday. There were already traffic jams on motorways in the north on Friday

Last year, the Friday before Pentecost was one of the busiest days of the year, said an ADAC spokesman. There was a lot going on on the motorways this year too: for example, traffic was backed up on the A1 in the Bremen area after an accident. That was also the case on the A7 near Waltershof – a Heavy goods transporter got stuck under a bridge in the morning. There was also a traffic jam on the A2 between the Hannover-Ost and Lehrte-Ost junctions for around five kilometers.
