Retrospective of the Canadian artist group General Idea in Berlin – Culture

Whoever hears a familiar word very, very, very often sees, it can suddenly seem strangely foreign. This effect is called “jamais-vu”, as the counterpart to “déjà vu”. A neuroscientist from the University of St. Andrews has just proven that this phenomenon can also be caused under laboratory conditions and received an Ig Nobel Prize for it, the alternative Nobel Prize for surprising research approaches. For the retrospective of the Canadian artist group General Idea, an entire suite of halls in Berlin’s Martin Gropius Building has now been wallpapered with the word “AIDS” in such a way that the once omnipresent concept of fear of an entire era seems to dissolve into ornamentation.
