Retrogaming: Revised version of Beyond Good & Evil is coming

The adventure game Beyond Good & Evil from Ubisoft was released 20 years ago, and now there is a slightly revised version with the suffix 20th Anniversary Edition before release. In the North American Xbox Store This version was already available.

However, this was probably an accidental early start; after a few hours it was removed from the overview again. The main improvements over the original are improved graphics with support for resolutions up to 4K, a frame rate of up to 60 fps, and optimized controls and audio output.

An autosave system and cross save are completely new – but no details are available. It is currently not clear when the 20thth Anniversary Edition is officially announced. A good date would be the Video Game Awards ceremony, which will be broadcast on December 7, 2023. In addition to the Xbox, it should support other platforms, probably also Playstation as well as Windows PC and Nintendo Switch.

The main character in Beyond Good & Evil (test from 2003 on Golem.de) is the reporter Jade, who uncovers a huge conspiracy on a planet occupied by hostile aliens.

Jade is armed with a kind of baton, but above all with a camera: taking a photo of each species is almost as important as beating up opponents.

What about Beyond Good & Evil 2?

Maybe Ubisoft will use the anniversary to say something about Beyond Good & Evil 2. The development studio has been working on this since 2007, and so far there is no end in sight. Apparently large parts of the title have been fundamentally changed again and again, most recently there was talk of adventures in a procedurally generated universe.

The gameplay should probably be subtly reminiscent of No Man’s Sky, but the monkeys and pigs known from the first part could play a larger role. It should be possible to move from the spaceship into space and then onto planets without noticeable charging indicators.
