Retreat of Amira Mohamed Ali: The Left is facing a split – Politics

After the announcement by faction leader Amira Mohamed Ali that he would withdraw, the Left Party seems inevitably heading for a break. Mohamed Ali announced on Sunday that he would no longer stand as a candidate for the chair of the left-wing faction in the Bundestag in the early September elections. The already probable split in the party has thus become even more likely. Mohamed Ali, 43, is assigned to Sahra Wagenknecht’s wing within the party. The former faction leader Wagenknecht wants to decide by the end of the year whether she is leaving the left to found a new party.
