The two editors-in-chief of the magazine “Geo” resign. According to RTL, the decision was mutual. She fell before the announcement that Gruner + Jahr would cut 700 jobs.

There is a change at the top of the magazine “Geo”. The previous editors-in-chief, Jens Schröder and Markus Wolff, announced their departure. The duo have managed the magazine since 2020.

The media group RTL, which had merged with the traditional publisher Gruner + Jahr in 2022, informed the dpa news agency that the decision had already been made by mutual agreement. “Both editors-in-chief will support the editorial team with the upcoming changes,” RTL said.

It was announced yesterday that Gruner + Jahr would discontinue numerous magazines and cut several hundred jobs. “Geo” is one of the titles that will remain after the restructuring. However, according to the announcement, offshoots such as “Geo Era” and “Geo Season” will no longer appear.

Former “Stern” editor-in-chief takes over

How things will continue at the top of “Geo” is still unclear. In the meantime, RTL has announced that the previous editor-in-chief of “Stern”, Gregor Peter Schmitz, is to become chairman of the editor-in-chief for “Geo”, “Stern” and “Capital”. The magazines he is responsible for should form the core of the digital offering of STERN PLUS.
