Almost six months after the start of her second term in office, the President of Berlin’s Humboldt University, Sabine art, announced her resignation at the end of the year. The reason she cited was the amendment to the Berlin University Act (BerlHG). “Personally, I consider the BerlHG’s scientific policy decisions to be well-intentioned but badly made,” said a statement by Kunst on the university’s website.
The changes in their entirety, so Kunst, endangered the excellent further development of the Humboldt University and the science location Berlin, since the funding is insufficient for far-reaching changes within the meaning of the new law. The amendment to the BerlHG leads, among other things, to a change in the university’s personnel structures. The number of permanent scientific staff will increase significantly – but “our current structures are not geared towards this,” said the President. Berlin’s Governing Mayor Michael Müller, who is also the Senator for Science, said that he took note of Kunst’s resignation “with regret and amazement”.
