Scientists estimate that 800 to 1200 years ago this person was given to earth in a grave that is now outside the Peruvian capital. The San Marcos University in Lima presented the latest finds from archaeological digs on Tuesday. This mummy was at the center of the presentation. Archaeologist Yomira Huaman reports. “We discovered a so-called matrix, which consists of holes about two meters deep. As we dug deeper, we discovered a burial site with the remains of a bundle of an infant’s clothing, handicraft jewelry, ceramics and this tied mummy.” The lacing as well as the keeping of the mummy are said to be due to a funeral rite of a pre-Inca culture. Hundreds of archaeological sites are known in Peru. They date from before and after the Inca Empire, which ruled the southern part of South America more than 500 years ago. How exactly the mummy found this year can be classified and who was the person who found its final resting place will now be examined in more detail.
