US President Joe Biden could soon be investigated for impeachment: The Republican Party is seeking impeachment proceedings. It remains to be seen whether this will actually happen.
The opposition US Republicans are pushing ahead with their plans for impeachment proceedings
McCarthy, had previously announced that he supported investigations into possible impeachment proceedings against Biden. There are credible allegations that Biden was involved in his son Hunter’s illegal business, McCarthy said on Tuesday.
McCarthy: Biden lied to the population
“These are allegations of abuse of power, cover-up and corruption and they warrant further investigation,” McCarthy said. Biden knew about his son Hunter’s business activities abroad and lied to the population about them.
McCarthy wanted to get a majority of his party’s members in the House of Representatives behind him to start the investigation. The other chamber of Congress, the Senate, would have to decide on a possible impeachment of the President. Biden’s Democrats have a narrow majority there. The possibility that the president could ultimately be found guilty and removed from office has so far been ruled out. (AFP/dpa/ank)
