Republicans take city back from environmentalists

Savigny-sur-Orge is back in the pocket of the right. The Republicans took over the town hall of the fourth city of Essonne on Sunday from environmentalists. Called to the polls during a by-election, its inhabitants chose Alexis Teillet (LR), in front of the invalidated mayor Jean-Marc Defrémont (EELV).

According to the results transmitted in the evening by the town hall, Alexis Teillet wins with 42.13% of the votes in this election which recorded a participation rate of 33%, the outgoing mayor obtaining 38.97%.

A town hall on the right for thirty years

In June 2020, the ecologist was elected at 34%, delighting the city of nearly 37,000 inhabitants to Eric Mehlhorn (LR), and more generally to the right who had led it for more than thirty years. But last October the justice decided to cancel this election. According to the Council of State, it had been distorted because of another candidate, accused of fraud, and had to be reorganized.

On Sunday, two other candidates were also in the running: Alexis Izard (LREM), who obtained 10.12% of the vote, and Olivier Vagneux (without label) 8.76%. The new mayor Alexis Teillet is departmental councilor for Essonne. He was also deputy mayor Eric Melhorn.
