Nikki Haley also lost out to Donald Trump in the Republican primaries in her home country of South Carolina. Nevertheless, she wants to continue. Trump now sees himself as the last savior of the USA.
“I’m a woman who keeps her word!” said Nikki Haley in front of cheering fans. Not all the votes had been counted yet, but it was clear that she would lose significantly to Donald Trump. And it was clear that her home advantage hadn’t helped her either. Nikki Haley is from South Carolina and was elected governor there twice. But she will carry on despite the defeat, just as she promised her supporters.
Haley emphasized that she will not give up this fight as long as a majority of Americans reject both Donald Trump and Joe Biden. The former UN ambassador sees herself as an alternative: Neither Trump nor Biden could bring people in the USA together again. Haley has repeatedly distanced herself from Trump. He is far too busy with his accusations, he is not distancing himself from Russian President Vladimir Putin, he is dividing America and he cannot beat Joe Biden.
Michigan votes on Tuesday
But Trump’s supporters apparently have a different opinion. After 80 percent of the votes were counted, he was over 20 percentage points ahead of Haley in South Carolina.
Haley wants to run for election in Michigan on Tuesday; A week later, on March 5th, elections will take place in more than a dozen states. The 52-year-old wants to stay in the race at least until this “Super Tuesday”. Everything else will also depend on whether she can continue to collect enough donations.
Trump calls himself a “political dissident”
Donald Trump celebrated on Saturday afternoon at CPAC, a meeting of ultra-conservatives near Washington, DC. There he painted a bleak picture of the future of the USA. “A vote for Trump is your ticket back to freedom. And it is your only escape from Joe Biden’s highway to hell. In many ways, we are living in hell now,” he said.
He is the only one who can prevent the extinction of the USA. Election day on November 5th will be the day of judgment for his opponents, but a new day of liberation for his supporters. He described himself as a political dissident.
Trump has now clearly won five Republican primaries. This increases his chances of entering the race as the Republican presidential candidate. Even though he has most of the Republican supporters behind him, he remains largely unpopular. More than half of Americans reject it. Joe Biden’s numbers are similarly bad.
