Reporting worldwide: The correspondents of the ARD

The approximately 100 foreign correspondents are the backbone of the ARD-News broadcasts. They report from 30 studios worldwide – on television, radio and online.

The correspondents at home and abroad are the backbone of the ARD-News programs – both on TV and on the radio and online. They make up the special quality of our reporting. Whether with reports and features or connected live from where the action is happening: the television and radio studios of the ARD provide up-to-date and competent information.

For domestic reporting, the ARD current-Editorial offices in the nine state broadcasting corporations ARD responsible. In the larger countries there are also regional studios where television and radio correspondents work.

In international reporting, the special strengths of the ARD their correspondents in more than 30 foreign studios. This network has grown into one of the largest in the world since the 1950s. The on-site reporters conduct their own interviews, shoot with their own camera teams or use material from television, radio, online media and social media in the host country.

Reports for all channels

Around 100 correspondents from abroad report for television, radio and online. This gives viewers and listeners the ARD a wide range from all regions of the world. TV reports run in the daily News and in the daily topicsin the Morning, noon and night magazine just like tagesschau24. With the world mirror and the Europe Magazine in the first there are weekly programs that exclusively show correspondents’ reports from abroad. The broadcasters 3sat, PHOENIX, ARTE and Deutsche Welle as well as the third programs also benefit in their broadcasts from the worldwide network of correspondents ARD.

Many years of knowledge of the country

The radio correspondents report for the 64 radio waves of the ARD as well as for “Deutschlandfunk”, “Deutschlandfunk Kultur” and “Deutschlandfunk Nova”. They serve every form: from the short news minute to the classic magazine article, from the live report to the hourly feature. All correspondents also work for tagesschau.de and the various online offers ARD.

Own reporters can classify current events in the respective social context and explain the background. Their many years of knowledge of the country ensure competent reporting. Above all, our correspondents always find topics beyond the headlines and agency reports. They then show unfamiliar realities of life, even without causes of crisis and far removed from cultural clichés.

Each foreign studio is looked after by a state broadcasting corporation. For example is the BR responsible for the studio in Rome, the SWR for Cairo, the NDR for Tokyo or the WDR for Moscow.
