The contract negotiations between Napoli and Lorenzo Insigne are not making progress. Toronto senses the chances of a free transfer.

Italy’s title contender SSC Napoli is threatened with the loss of captain and figurehead Lorenzo Insigne. MLS club Toronto FC are campaigning heavily for the European champions and baiting him, according to a report by Sky Sport Italia with an extremely lucrative contract. Accordingly, Insigne beckoning a working paper over five years with a base salary of 11.5 million euros per season. This salary could rise to 16 million euros through bonus payments.

Toronto has been in contact with Insigne for some time. However, it has not yet decided whether he will accept the offer. The contract of the tricky winger with Napoli expires in the summer. Negotiations about an extension have been stalled for months and are currently on hold. Allegedly, the Partenopei offer the 30-year-old a lower salary than he is currently receiving.

Napoli: Insignia and Chelsea rumors

The decision to move to Toronto will have to be made in the coming months. According to the MLS statutes, the Canadians would have to report by the beginning of March whether Insigne would be their player on July 1, 2022.

Due to the tough contract negotiations with Napoli, there have been loose rumors of a change of insignia in recent weeks. In particular, Serie A rivals Inter and the two top English clubs Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur were named as interested parties.

Insigne has played for Napoli for over 15 years. He won the Coppa Italia twice with the club. In the current season he has made 11 goals in 18 competitive games.
