Heavy blow for Barça: Ronald Araujo will apparently have an operation and will be absent from the Catalans until the end of the year. The World Cup is also in danger for Uruguay’s twelve-time international.
From FC Barcelona’s point of view, the current international break was bitter. Jules Koundé has sustained a hamstring injury and will likely be out for two to three weeks. His use in the Clasico against Real Madrid (October 16) is therefore at risk.
Araujo opts for surgery – World Cup in danger?
Ronald Araujo got it worse. The Uruguay international suffered a torn adductor longus tendon in the friendly loss to Iran. Like the Barça-close ones Mundo Deportivo reported, a decision is said to have been made on Monday that the defender will undergo an operation in Finland. Araujo will then be out for around six weeks.
He will be missing in the Clasico as well as in the Champions League cracker against Bayern. Even his participation in the World Cup in Qatar could be in danger. Despite the possibly longer downtime due to an operation, Araujo decided to have the procedure to avoid further problems in the future. For Barça, he is expected to appear after the World Cup break at the end of December.
For the time being, coach Xavi only has new signing Hector Bellerin and all-rounder Sergi Roberto available at the back right. In central defense, the trio of Eric Garcia, Andreas Christensen and Gerard Piqué have to make up for the losses.
