Report: Niko Kovac no longer coach of AS Monaco

I can well imagine that the dismissal will prove to be a godsend for him in the long term.

The 1.5 years at Monaco have certainly not damaged his reputation. A whole shelf below, of course, but it reminds me a bit of the situation with Tuchel.

I would describe layoffs as a godsend if one or more components apply at the same time:

• Kovac is only given leave of absence and continues to pay diligently
• He now has enough freedom to take time out or to continue his education
• The dismissal turns out to be a mistake, because the subsequent coach with the same team did not score any more
• The following job is with at least one club on the same level as Monaco
• He is paid better in the following job than in Monaco

Whether all of this is a stroke of luck can only be analyzed when the contract is signed. However, I don’t understand your comparison between Kovac and Tuchel. Do you mean Tuchel’s dismissal from PSG or Dortmund?

Tuchel always delivered, climbed step by step with his performances, trained world stars and won many titles. I tend not to see this trend at Kovac, even if both are considered very difficult contemporaries. Rather, Kovac was at his personal maximum at Bayern, but that is not a sin. Because after Bayern there is usually not much left or not much more can come. This applies to coaches as well as players and officials alike. The career break came with the dismissal from Bayern. Monaco is definitely good for the vita and a respected, international club. But I doubt that Kovac’s coaching career will now take a similar course to that of Tuchel.

A “coach dismissal” is almost always an exemption, possibly followed by a contract termination. Ordinary termination is usually not possible with such a contract, as with other temporary contracts, and there is probably only a reason for termination without notice in the case of coaches.

As for the Tuchel comparison, I was only concerned that the situation for him after separation in Dortmund (after a conflict with the team and the board) and PSG (conflict with the board) developed ideally. Kovac had problems with the board and team in Munich and apparently with the board in Monaco. So wouldn’t be an exception if his next stop was a success.
