They are responsible for tracking down the nuisances that spoil the daily lives of residents. Since January 1, seventeen agents making up the new anti-incivility brigade have been patrolling the city center and priority neighborhoods of Rennes. Most were previously public highway surveillance officers, responsible for controlling parking. But this mission being managed by the famous Lapi cars, they now ensure respect for public space.
And suffice to say that they will have work when we see the illegal dumping that is piling up in certain neighborhoods with mattresses, furniture and various objects thrown onto the street. “They are there to remind you of the rules of common life, to mediate but also to verbalize if necessary,” indicates Mayor Nathalie Appéré.
135 euros for a wild pee or a cigarette butt thrown on the ground
Present on the ground from Monday to Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., the anti-incivility brigade will also have in its sights the gross disgusting people who urinate in the street, throw their cigarette butts on the ground or do not pick up their dog’s droppings. For them, the fine will be 135 euros and the bill could even rise to 1,500 euros in the event of illegal dumping.
Officers will also be responsible for penalizing noise pollution, wild posting, annoying parking or any inappropriate behavior in the street. But unlike municipal police officers, they will not be able to carry out an identity check in the event of an offense.
