Germany’s green electricity law is rightly considered a great success story. This was the first time that wind and solar energy were able to establish themselves on the German electricity market. It allowed green energy shares to grow while the cost of new plants fell. The Renewable Energy Act, or EEG for short, made investments in the new technology calculable with its support for every kilowatt hour fed in. Without this support there would never have been an energy transition. It was so successful that the FDP now wants to abolish it. As soon as possible. Because success doesn’t come cheap.
