Removing cat hair: effective cleaning tips for upholstered furniture and textiles

A cat sleeps or dozes around 15 hours a day on average – even longer in winter. If she has found a cozy place that she particularly likes, she will go back to it again and again. And you can see that at some point.
Cats not only distribute their hair around the home, on furniture and textiles to change their coat: depending on the breed, house tigers can shed all year round. Some pet owners may not be particularly bothered by this, but many find the small tufts extremely annoying. Especially when their clothes or bedding are covered in cat hair. The good news, however, is that there are numerous tips on how to get a grip on the hairy problem. We’ll tell you the best tricks.
Preventive Measures: You Can Do That
Regular grooming is the key to success so that your house tiger does not distribute its hair in clumps throughout the apartment. Because even if cats brush themselves several times a day, they cannot master their mountains of hair. To help groom your pet, you can get one Cat brush or one Cat comb use – preferably every day. Depending on whether your house tiger has short or long, thin or thick fur, there are different care products (also for the Undercoat). For the classic shorthair cat, which is widespread in Europe, one is suitable Soft brush especially good. It usually has thin, soft bristles made of wire. And don’t worry: most animals perceive manual grooming as a wellness treatment. If your cat does not want a brush or a comb, you can use a special one Rubber glove with knobs by gently stroking the fur.
Removing cat hair: from (upholstered) furniture
Since cat hair sticks particularly well to upholstered furniture, it is correspondingly more difficult to remove. Technical gadgets with the necessary power can be quite helpful here, such as a special animal hair attachment for the vacuum cleaner. This variant from Navaris, for example, should be suitable for all models whose vacuum cleaner tube has a diameter of 32 to 35 millimeters. One smaller version (28 – 37 mm) are also available. Alternatively, you can get a wireless one Handheld vacuum cleaner which has been specially developed for animal hair. If you don’t want to upgrade technically, there is still the good old one lint roller – whereby the new models can do a lot more and are sustainable (because they are reusable). They are equally suitable for upholstered furniture as they are for textiles, i.e. clothing or bed linen. The classic one is even cheaper to buy Glue roll, but it also produces more rubbish. After you have removed the cat hair, the fully glued surfaces must be replaced again and again with new rollers (for a fee).
Remove cat hair: from textiles
The lint roll can also be used for a few cat hairs on clothing. However, if your things are literally littered with tufts, for example because your cat was lying on them, you can use a simple trick – provided you have a tumble dryer: Before you put your clothes in the washing machine, put them in the dryer for a few minutes and let it run on the coldest level the device has. Through the air, the cat hair is practically blown out of the textiles (including towels and bed linen). The clothes can then be cleaned as normal. After the wash cycle, however, it makes less sense to put the clothes in the dryer, as the cat hair really gets stuck in the fibers and is therefore difficult to remove.
Important: After using the dryer, you should remove the cat hair from the fluff filter.
Gadgets for pet owners
If you don’t have a dryer, there is another trick you can use to remove cat hair from your clothes: the so-called Miracle brush. This is a brush with special, curved bristles. This is intended to easily remove animal hair, but also dirt, from textiles. According to the manufacturer, the gadget is not only suitable for clothing, but also for upholstered furniture, carpets and cat baskets.
There is also a practical gadget for upholstered furniture such as the sofa: the Pet hair remover. He has hardened rubber teeth, with the help of which cat hair can be removed more easily. The special thing about it is that each of the four edges can be used differently – this means that the device has four cleaning modes which, in combination, should ensure a clean result. The ergonomic design also ensures a comfortable hold in the hands.
Last but not least, an ordinary Rubber glove to help clean clothes and furniture from cat hair. Moisten it first before you stroke or circle the fabric with your smooth hand. Due to the electrostatic attraction and the rough surface, the tufts can be easily gathered and removed. It is best to pull the textiles taut beforehand, then it will work even better.
And one more tip at the end:
It may sound very banal, but the cat hairs flying around can actually be reduced if you vacuum the apartment regularly – preferably several times a week when the coat is changing.
