The match against England on the first day of the tournament left Italy frustrated (24-27), but provided encouraging avenues for work for the men of Gonzalo Quesada, the new Italian coach. These tracks were swept away on Sunday February 11 by Ireland, who left their opponent of the day no chance, winning 36-0, with six tries.

The last time that the Squadra Azzurra did not score a single point in a match was in February 2022, against England (0-33).

The large reshuffle of the team (six changes), including the captain, did not disrupt Andy Farell’s men. The Green Devils did not wait long before scoring the first try: seven minutes per Jack Crowley. Italy showed itself valiantly during the first twenty minutes, before giving in to the very self-confident Irish. With ten points and first place in the general classification, Ireland seems more sure of its strengths than ever.
