The FC Bayern basketball team has never lost a game against Alba Berlin in the Euroleague. And even if it seemed for a while on Friday evening that this trend could break, the series continued with the fifth win. The 62:56 win was all the more significant as Andrea Trinchieri’s team managed to move up to eighth place in the table thanks to the other results of the evening. It was also the fifth competitive win in a row for Munich, and a hard-fought one at that. “What an ugly game! It was like a mud fight,” the Bayern coach then analyzed at Magentasport. According to Trinchieri, both teams brought little energy into the game. The 53-year-old could still see the relief.
For a moment it seems as if Berlin has everything under control
The 1,625 spectators in the Audi Dome, the first in the 2022 calendar year, experienced a game with few points and dominated by the defensive end. Bayern’s Nick Weiler-Babb recorded no fewer than six steals in the first half. Suddenly Bayern scored again from all distances, after 32 minutes the home team was in the lead again for the first time. The intense game was only decided when Vladimir Lucic converted a three-pointer with 41 seconds to go, made a foul and sunk the extra point. In the end, Lucic was also clearly Bayern’s most successful offensive player with 19 points. “It was a nice game, as always,” said Lucic, who contradicted his coach – he could only have meant the ongoing winning streak against Alba in international competition. There is hardly any time to rest: Just over 43 hours after the end of the game, the next duel is already waiting for Munich, on Sunday in the Bundesliga against Medi Bayreuth (6 p.m.).
