Relationship: Why cheaters rarely regret their infidelity

What motivates people to cheat? And how do you rate your affair? The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore investigated these questions in a broad-based study. The result is likely to be sobering for many of those cheated on – a majority of the cheaters stated that they were also very satisfied with their infidelity afterwards.

Why is cheating actually done and how do you feel about it? The participants filled out questionnaires about their permanent relationship, as well as data on age, gender and income – and also on their motives for having an affair. The results challenge widely held beliefs about the experience of infidelity. Because most of them had hardly any scruples about their affairs, even more: they enjoyed the fling and at the same time described the relationship with their permanent partners as good to happy.

About ten percent of the participants stated that they had mutually open relationships with their partners.
