Rejected AfD successor becomes a case for the supervisory authority – Bavaria

After the rejection of an AfD district parliament candidate in the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the district office wants to hand over the process to the supervisory authority for examination. The district council had refused an AfD candidate, who should come as a successor to the municipal committee, by a large majority. According to the district council in Bavaria, the case should be unique so far, several media had reported on the process.

The decision of the district council will now be submitted to the government of Upper Bavaria in Munich, explained a spokesman for the district authority on Friday. The decision on the list successor for an AfD district councilor who had left the committee was made on July 26th. Five district councilors voted for the AfD man Albert Mutschlechner, 39 against.

The district office did not comment on the reasons for the rejection. According to various reports, statements by the candidate on social networks were decisive. A spokeswoman for the Bavarian district council said that the municipal association has not yet heard of a similar case of rejection of the successor in the Free State.

The AfD district association pointed out in a statement that Mutschlechner had been elected by the citizens in the last local elections. “We will take action against this together with the state board, which has already been informed,” announced the district association on its Facebook page with regard to the district council’s decision. The posts criticized by the AfD candidate are expressions of opinion and have “no criminal relevance”.

The state chairman of the AfD, Stephan Protschka, criticized the behavior of the majority in the district council on Friday. “The AfD is entitled to the mandate. The will of the voters must be accepted,” said the member of the Bundestag.
