Regional elections shunned, Emmanuel Macron in Douai and vigilance storms

Did you miss the early morning news? We have concocted a recap to help you see more clearly.

The second round of regional and departmental elections on Sunday particularly resembled the first. Like last week, voters overwhelmingly shunned the ballot box. On the results side, the outgoing presidents, on the right and on the left, were comforted. On the other hand, defeated in Paca, the National Assembly failed to conquer a region, ten months before the presidential election. Disappointment also for the ecologists, beaten in the Pays-de-la-Loire. As for the presidential party, it still fails to win a territorial election. The blow is also hard for the Communist Party, whose decline was once again marked during the counting of departmental. Since Sunday evening with his defeat in Val-de-Marne, of which he had had the keys since 1976, the PCF no longer heads any department.

The President of the Republic wants to turn the page on regional. For this, he will focus his speech on Monday not on politics but on the field of the economy. Two billion euros of investment, 1,000 jobs created by 2024: for his first trip after the scathing defeat of his party in the elections, Emmanuel Macron must formally announce in the North the establishment of a Sino-Japanese factory of batteries for electric cars. AESC, the Japanese battery subsidiary of the Chinese green technology group Envision, will manufacture batteries near the Renault plant in Douai (North), for the Losange compact ranges and for other brands.

A few places in France are still under threat of lightning. Four departments remain on orange alert for thunderstorms this Monday morning,
reported Météo-France in its morning bulletin. According to the organization, the Allier, the Loire, the Puy-de-Dôme and the Rhône are affected by a strong risk of violent phenomena and strong accumulations of precipitation.
