The murderer who fled from a court in Regensburg has been arrested in France. The 40-year-old was caught near the German border, the Upper Palatinate police said.

A few days ago he escaped from the window of a lawyer’s office on the ground floor of the Regensburg district court and has been on the run ever since. Now the convicted murderer Rachid C. was caught in France, as the responsible police said.

Man had killed 76-year-old

The police are waiting for 151 clues about the fugitive, a police spokesman said on Monday afternoon. The 40-year-old was also searched for internationally.

The convicted murderer and an accomplice attacked a lottery shop in Nuremberg in 2011 and killed the 76-year-old owner. In 2013 he was sentenced to life imprisonment and has been in prison in Straubing ever since.

Because of resistance against enforcement officials in the JVA, he now had to answer before the district court of Regensburg. When the hearing was interrupted last Thursday for a meeting with his lawyer, the man managed to escape from the lawyer’s room on the first floor of the court.

Detainee ‘escaped within seconds’

According to the spokesman, the Algerian was untied for the lawyer’s interview. A guard was standing in front of the lawyer’s office door, and another was on his way to the lawyer’s office window.

The prisoner fled “within a few seconds,” said the spokesman. The lawyer then informed the officials that his client had fled. The processes in the district court would now be checked after the incident.
