Regensburg: ship loses hundreds of liters of oil on the Danube – Bavaria

A ship has lost several hundred liters of oil on the Danube near Regensburg. The cause was probably a technical defect, as a police spokesman said on Wednesday. The skipper of the excursion ship was made aware of the leaking oil by another skipper. The escape of the so-called gas oil was stopped by emergency measures. Nevertheless, according to the police, between 500 and 1000 liters of the oil got into the Danube during the incident on Tuesday.

Due to the currently high flow rate of the Danube, the oil could no longer be captured and spread along the river. However, experts did not assume that there would be any serious effects on the water body. The situation will continue to be monitored, it said. The police are investigating possible violations. An expert should also clarify the cause of the accident and the extent of the damage.
