A man from Regensburg used a knife and hammer to inflict a number of very serious and sometimes life-threatening injuries on his neighbor. The public prosecutor accuses him of attempted murder. The trial against the 25-year-old German began on Wednesday before the Regensburg Regional Court. He is believed to be innocent due to his drug use.
The victim is said to be severely traumatized and will remain permanently disfigured given his injuries. Presiding judge Michael Hammer said it was unclear whether he would be able to testify in court. The hearing of the witness was scheduled for the afternoon.
The accused is said to have rung his 19-year-old neighbor’s doorbell in December 2022, pushed open his apartment door and suddenly stabbed the young man in the stomach. The accused – probably in a mental state of emergency due to the influence of drugs – demanded 10,000 euros. Then he repeatedly stabbed and hit his victim.
According to the investigation, the 19-year-old repeatedly asked the language assistant Alexa to call the police, which did not work. Despite his life-threatening injuries, the man managed to knock on neighbors before he collapsed. Eight days of negotiations have initially been scheduled for the process. The sequel is scheduled for Thursday.
