Regensburg: Agreement in the party donation process against Rieger – Bavaria

The CSU MP admits that he asked a building contractor for a donation during the 2013 election campaign. The judge previously promised a fine of 270 to 360 daily rates if Rieger admits the facts.

In the party donation process against the CSU MP Franz Rieger, those involved in the proceedings agreed on an understanding. Before the regional court of Regensburg, the presiding judge on Wednesday promised a fine of 270 to 360 daily rates – provided that Rieger admits the facts covered in the indictment. The politician is accused of extortion, among other things.

Rieger then had his lawyer read a statement according to which he admitted, among other things, that he had asked a building contractor for a donation during the 2013 election campaign. He said that the entrepreneur should consider that the CSU would also have a say in the award of construction contracts in the future. According to the prosecution, the sentence should have been said at the time: “You already know who will decide on the construction projects and the building permits in the future.”

The building contractor said in his testimony on Wednesday that he felt blackmailed at the time and then donated more than he actually wanted. After the start of the trial on Monday, the defense attorneys and the prosecutors had withdrawn with the judges for a legal discussion in which they discussed an understanding. Together with the MP, the owner of a PR company is charged.
