Refugees from Ukraine: On packed suitcases – district of Munich

Almost 5,000 Ukrainians have arrived in the Munich district since the outbreak of war six months ago, and many of them want to return home. Others build a new life – and help each other.

“Wake up in the morning and go home” – it is the dearest wish of Anastasiia Mozghova. When the 27-year-old was offered an apartment in Garching by her uncle’s employer in March, which she could live in with her mother, brother and grandmother until the end of September, she was impressed: she hadn’t planned to stay that long. It was around March 8, she had just fled from the war in Kharkiv, Ukraine, to her uncle who works at the Max Planck Institute in Garching. They thought they would stay for two or three weeks at the most. Half a year has now passed and moving out at the end of September is unthinkable.
