In the case of the explosive attack on the Left Party’s party office in Oberhausen in 2022, according to information from the ARD political magazine Report Mainz the Evidence of a right-wing extremist background.

The Duisburg public prosecutor’s office said that after an initial evaluation of the evidence, it was assumed that there was a “right-wing political motivation”. There are signs of “right-wing attitudes” on the part of the two suspects.

The suspect was apparently part of the neo-Nazi scene

One of the two suspects was targeted by several security authorities in the 1990s. Report Mainz there are documents that prove this. Accordingly, the now 49-year-old was apparently a supporter of the Duisburg neo-Nazi scene and was active in the environment of the “Free German Workers’ Party” (FAP).

In 1992, for example, he is said to have taken part in their party conference in Strausberg, Brandenburg. The FAP was banned in 1995 because it acted in an “aggressive, combative manner” against the constitution and was essentially similar to the NSDAP in its objectives.

Suspects in Pretrial detention

The two suspects were arrested on Thursday. Emergency services had previously searched the couple’s shared apartment.

According to the public prosecutor’s office, new evidence of involvement in the crime emerged. Since then they have been in custody on suspicion of causing an explosive explosion.

In the explosive attack on July 5, 2022, the party headquarters of the Oberhausen Left Party was largely destroyed and neighboring houses were damaged. “The explosive effect was significant,” said a spokeswoman for the public prosecutor’s office. It was more of a coincidence that there were no injuries.

According to the Left Party, the crime was preceded by several swastika graffiti around the party office.
