Record seizure of 1.7 tonnes of cannabis in Strasbourg

This is the largest quantity of cannabis resin ever seized in Strasbourg. The case dates back to November 2021 after information received by the Operational Intelligence Unit on Narcotics in Bas-Rhin (Cross 67). Information concerning a network of traffickers who notably supplied the sensitive district of Hautepierre in Strasbourg.

Immediately, the “organized crime” pole of the Strasbourg public prosecutor’s office tasked the Anti-Narcotics Office of Strasbourg (OFAST) with the investigation, with the help of the BRI and the GIR. An investigation which made it possible to identify the main persons responsible for this traffic, and above all an important logistics network. A real logistics platform on the outskirts of the Strasbourg agglomeration, specifies the police, one of the members of the network having hijacked his activity as a business manager.

Bales of about thirty kilos each

This Tuesday, while the traffickers were visibly preparing to receive a new delivery, an important device was put in place. Three men, including the main sponsor, were arrested. During the operation, 500 kg of cannabis resin were found by law enforcement. The drugs were hidden in furniture that had just been received. Additional excavations led the investigators to a warehouse where there were several dozen bales of cannabis resin, weighing around thirty kilos each.

A total of 1.7 tonnes of cannabis resin was seized, the largest amount
of cannabis resin never seized in the Strasbourg urban area, specifies the judicial police. It represents an estimated market value (retail sale) of more than 13 million euros. Those arrested were referred to the prosecutor’s office on Friday for an indictment.
